Can the council provide an update on the progress of the built heritage conservation works within the council's control in Clane-Maynooth Municipal District?

Agenda Report:

It is the intention of the Heritage and Nature Unit to brief the Clane-Maynooth Municipal Districts at their April meetings, once confirmation of all grant applications submitted by KCC have been received and/or determined by the relevant Government Department.

Issued by: Ms. A Granville, Senior Planner, Forward Planning, Heritage, Conservation and Biodiversity.

Debate

The Heritage Council provided € 5,000 under the Community Heritage Grant Scheme to Clane Community Council for a consultancy report to develop a strategy for conserving the mausoleum, a protective structure owned by the County Council. Unauthorised intrusions had damaged the mausoleum. The local public donates a significant amount towards the upkeep of Mainham Cemetery each year, and preserving the mausoleum would be of great public interest. It was considered a lovely and valuable feature, and neglecting its maintenance now would result in much higher costs in the long run.
