Update sought on M4 Bus Corridor

Updated: Dec 9, 2024

Clane-Maynooth Municipal District Meeting, Friday, 6 December 2024

Councillor Pádraig McEvoy

Question

Can the council update the committee on the estimated timeline to finish the development of the eastbound bus corridor on the M4 in this municipal district?

Agenda Report

The M4 Eastbound Bus Priority Measures are being constructed by the Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII) MMaRC contractor.

The current temporary speed limit reduction order between junctions 5 and 6 expires on 2 December 2024, the MMaRC Contractor has requested an extension until April 2025 in order to complete this section of the project. Therefore, the expected completion date for the first phase of the project (Junction 5 to 6) is now April 2025.

Legislative changes are also required to allow buses travel in the hard shoulder and the preparation of the new legislation is with the Department of Transport and TII.

Issued by: Ms. M Whelan, Senior Engineer, National Roads Office.
