Question:
Can the council update the committee with an outline of the preparatory work for the Clane Town Centre First project?
Report:
Clane has been chosen as the first town in Kildare to receive funding for the preparation of a Town Centre First (TCF) Plan under the Government’s Town Centre First Policy. The Town Centre First policy aims to create town centres that function as viable, vibrant and attractive locations for people to live, work and visit, while also functioning as the service, social, cultural and recreational hub for the local community. Brady Shipman Martin have been appointed Consultants for the preparation of this plan and over the last number of months have carried out preparatory work including the preparation of materials for public workshops, preparation of material for primary and secondary schools engagement, surveys, desktop reviews, site visits, infrastructure audits, destination profiling and economic assessments etc. This TCF Plan will be driven by the local community and businesses as part of a Town Team who will be supported by the Town Regeneration Officer and technical expertise within the council. Several members have been appointed to the Town Team. It is hoped in the coming weeks to launch a survey and hold public workshops in Clane.
